Co-Curriculum Programs

At Ascot Vale West, there is a strong emphasis on the teaching of English and Mathematics as the foundations for all other learning.  Daily literacy and numeracy learning sessions are designed around the individual learning needs of each student – stretching and supporting them in reaching their potential.

While literacy and numeracy are our main focuses, the school community values the need to offer quality specialist programs to support and enhance learning experiences. These experiences recognise and develop every child’s strengths and provide experiences to build world knowledge.
Every year the students develop and show off new arts skills in the Concert program or Art Show.

Electives are also offered throughout the school, such as choir, talent quests and chess club for interested students during lunchtimes.

A sequential Camping Program is offered across the school, from Prep to Year 6. The aim is to provide experiences in developing independence, teamwork and confidence, away from the familiar home environment.

Excursions/Incursions are integrated with classroom programs and form an important part of school life. Excursions/Incursions are used to supplement programs to enhance student learning experiences.

Intensive swimming programs offered for all students. The program for Years 3 – 6 students is held in Term 1 and the P-2 students attend late Term 4. Small groups are taught by qualified instructors. This program operates from the Ascot Vale Leisure Centre.
